Just in time to close Mermay, I’ve recreated the gown of a humanoid mermaid from the 1964 British tv show, Stingray! This was one of Gerry Anderson’s supermarionation productions, using marionettes and complex sets to tell sci-fi tales set in the 21st century.
Stingray was one of these, following the adventures of Captain Troy Tempest and his friends as he patrols the sea in the sub, Stingray, on behalf of the World Aquanaut Security Patrol.
In the first episode, we’re introduced to Aquamarina, a mute girl from under the sea, whom Troy rescues from slavery. Subsequently, Marina chooses to become part of the Stingray crew rather than returning home.
