Thank you for sharing this! I've only just discovered your work––if you wrote so well in high school, I would love to see what your novels are like now. :)
I actually stumbled across your writing while browsing En Route's website. I too am a young Catholic author of fantasy novels, and always happy to discover another one. My three books so far have been published via Amazon KDP, but lately I feel like the Holy Spirit is prodding me toward looking for a publisher. If you have time, would you be open to talking a little with me about that? (Sorry, I know Substack isn't really the normal place for messages like this.)
Hi, Sarah! I actually did quite a bit of editing to get it closer to what my writing is these days, and I was really excited to finally have a chance to share it! I’m so glad you enjoyed reading it!
Wow, it’s wonderful that you write Catholic fantasy novels, as well - I’m always looking for those! I’d be happy to help if I can. You can send me an email at windflower.14wwg@passinbox.com, and I can put you in touch with the president of En Route, if you like.
(I did an audio interview with him earlier this year, if you check under the podcast tab - apologies for my audio quality in that, I hadn’t gotten a good microphone yet!)
Lovely story, I really liked Miguel though and hope there's a follow-up about him. Damn he's cool! This was a real treat, I'm glad it was included in S&S and TT. Great job, I've no real criticism or suggestions to make beyond the recommendation to include it in an anthology or send it to a magazine as it would be a shame not to publish it.
Thank you, I’m so glad you enjoyed it! Miguel was fun, so I’ll have to consider bringing him back somehow. I used to plan to write a full-length story, in which Jālūt and Miguel need to team up again to rescue Lia when she’s recaptured and taken to Constantinople; but something set in Spain might be interesting, too!
Thank you! I would definitely love to publish it somehow; I haven’t found a magazine yet that I could publish it in, but if I come up with another short story, I might be able to publish it in a little anthology along with the Good Friday short story I posted for Easter.
That's an idea! It might be interesting to write about Miguel serving Don Juan, and he could interact with that other Miguel who was at Lepanto, Cervantes.

Well you could have her recaptured, and the two team-up could be a fun tale.
Miguel’s tale could work as a sequel?

Yep exactly, this way you get two books out of it rather than just one!
*Wipes the tears from under his eyes.* It is a beautiful story, m'lady. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Aw, thank you, Joseph! My pleasure, I’m so glad you enjoyed it.
