A Cover-art for Wingswept: The Dragon and the Dove

publication is currently not posting articles, at least for the time being, I’ll be posting occasional cover reveals and articles (one will come soon on the final Substack artwork for Rise of Sirius, as well as one for The Sword of Myn’).

Without further ado, see below the full cover which includes both the new and original Wingswept artworks!

I’m really happy that the Substack cover-art could be included, as well, though it had to be flipped to allow for the barcode which will appear in the right-hand corner of the back cover.

It came out much more fairytale-esque than I was imagining, with the plan changing from incorporating a golden-hour sky to sunrise.

I also altered the coloring of Alandis’ Dragandrea dress from the original text of Wingswept, which was fully platinum and much more Ahren in design. I liked the unconventional idea of making the “guardian/warrior princess” type wear pink.

The leftmost design in the first image, similar to the final concept, is a previous Dragandrea design, the right showing an alternative design of Alandis' travel costume, as shown on the back cover. The flowers on the front cover depict rue, also known as herb-of-grace, the national flower of Lithuania; a symbol of grace, purity, and regret¹. Also depicted is the forget-me-not, a flower which is a suitable symbol of Alandis’ thoughts of Trys and Solavier throughout the story.

The crown represents dragon scales, and you might also be able to make out the embroidered sun on the crest on Sissi’s neck, another nod towards the names of Trys and Solavier. Alandis’ necklace is special too, being inspired by an amber ring which a friend brought back from Lithuania for me as a Christmas present.

The front cover of Wingswept has been added to the Stella Maris store, and I plan on launching a store for Windflower in the coming week, which will feature any of Windflower’s cover-artworks. I’ll let you know when it’s up! For now, you can view it on Stella Maris’ Pixels/Fine Art America page.
